    BEHREND
I am seeking information on the Friedrich BEHREND family. Friedrich and his wife, Amelia (Mollie) Grossman, came by ship from either Germany or Prussia. They travelled with a group of Germans--including Amelia's sister, Lydia SIWECK, and her husband--and the group apparently all settled in Decatur where they attended St. John's Lutheran Church (St. Johannes Lutheran Church). I know they arrived prior to 1895 because their daughter, Hedwig, was born in Decatur that year. I am also seeking information on Herman Paul AMMANN, whom Hedwig married in 1918. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

    COCHRAN
I have the family Bible that belonged to my great-great grandfather, James A. Cochran (1837-1927) who lived and died in Macon Co. This Bible was also passed down through his son, W.W. Cochran (1867-1941). In this Bible are two Macon Co. school certificates for a Callie Wykoff, one dated March 1902 for Casner School, Prairie Hall Central in Macon County, Illinois, and the other dated 4 April 1903 for Bois'd Arc School in Macon County Common Schools.

I have no idea who Callie Wykoff was or of her connection to the Cochran family in Macon Co. I would be most appreciative of any information I may receive to solve this mystery. Thank you.

    CORNELL / CONNELL
CORNELL or CONNELL/ COLLINS/McCAIN
Frank Marion COLLINS was born 24 Jan 1864 in Illinois to John S. and Mary Jane (McCAIN) COLLINS. Frank's father died in 1864, and his mother re-married in 1869. On the 1870 Macon Co., IL census, Friends Creek Twp., Frank is enumerated with W. H. CORNELL (may be CONNELL) and his wife, Mary E. Frank COLLINS is 6 years old at this time. I have no record of Frank after this 1870 census, although I do know he lived until the mid 1940's somewhere. I am wondering if there was any relationship between Frank's mother and the CORNELL/CONNELL family.

    GUENTHER, ULLRICH, WATERS
I wonder if you good people of Macon Co IL might be able to give me some guidance. I am trying to locate the Stammbuch (German family history book) which my great-grandparents, Ernst Julius GUENTHER (1855-1940) and Anna Rosalie ULLRICH (1862-1940), took with them to America in 1892. I know that it was in the possession of their youngest daughter, Mrs Hanna Loretta Guenther WATERS (1904-1991), at the time of her death in Decatur. She was a widow with no children, and she left her house at 1070 Evans Court, Decatur, to Grace United Methodist Church of Decatur. She left her personal effects to the executor of her will; he was not related to her, but I do know his name. I have written to him several times, and he doesn't even answer my letters. Is there anything I can do to find this precious book of our family history? Thank you for any assistance at all! I am desperate.

John and Catherine reportedly died there, George and family left probably sometime after 1870 and went to Pike County, IL.

As for the HAMMITT family, they are shrouded in mystery. Edwin or Edmin HAMMITT and family arrived before 1850. Son of Edwin, Edward HAMMITT mrd. in Pike County, IL to Mary Catherine KAYLOR son of George above, but believe they lived in Macon County for some years before moving permanently to Pike County ca 1875. We do not know what happened to Edwin/Edmin HAMMITT nor the rest of his family, although I believe we have another brother of Edward's in Pike County in 1880 census. Would appreciate any knowledge of either family or parts thereof. Thanks for your time.

    LAWRENCE
I am looking for my great-grandfather's place of burial Thomas Lawrence b about 1815 in NC. All of his children are listed in the Harristown, Il census for 1865 but he is not listed. The Harristown Cemetery did not start until 1867 so I need to know the name of a cemetery in that area before 1867. Do you have any suggestions? Thomas Lawrence married Nancy Jane McMurray in Knox Co., TN in 1841, they are listed in the 1850 census for Red Clay, GA. She died in 1858. He is still listed with the children in 1860 census of Red Clay, GA but all the obit's for the children say they moved to Illinois after the Civil War. The youngest child born 1857 in GA was Wiley Fletcher Lawrence who married Jane Inman in 1880 in Decatur, IL. thank you

    LICHTENBERGER / LUTES
Looking for the family of JAMES PENDLETON LICHTENBERGER and AGNES ETTA ENGLE. I know that they had 10 children-Cylde, James Floyd, Charlotte, Bernice, Lola, Edith, Kenneth E., Ethel, Glenna, and Frances. I know the names and I have a photograph of all of them together but I do not know any other details about them. James and Agnes were my great grandparents through James Floyd. I would like to talk with any of the family.

James Pendleton Lichtenberger was born in 1868. My grandfather, James Floyd was born in Macon County (my guess is Oakley) in 1897. I think there is a possibility that James P.'s father was James B. listed in the 1880 History of Macon County as a postmaster and merchant in/from Oakley.

The other family of interest to me in Macon County is the John Franklin Lutes family of the same area. I know that family from John Franklin until now but am unable to go back. I know that he and his son Milton Lutes both lived with the Peters family and family knowledge tells me that John F was given to the Peters at an early age when his mother could not care for him after his dad died.

    LORIUS
Looking for information about my gg-grandmother Louisa LORIUS a/k/a Louisa OTTO a/k/a Louisa BERKLER a/k/a Louisa FERRIS, her husbands, and children. Louisa as listed as living in Macon County in the 1870 through 1900 U.S. census records. In the 1900 Friend's Creek Township, Macon County census, Louisa's occupation is listed as landlord. She supposedly died in November 1920, but I don't know where. Louisa LORIUS was b. 9/28/1841 in Switzerland the duaghter of Frederick and Julia LORIUS. She supposedly came to the U.S. in 1849. Louisa's first husband's name was George OTTO (b. c. 1831 in Perry County, Pennsylvania) and he supposedly died in Macon or Peoria County around 1872. Louisa's second husband's name was Frank BERKLER (b. c. 1836 in Germany), who she married around 1875. Frank may have died in Macon County before 1893, since Louisa married Samuel FERRIS Jr. (b. 10/1863 in Boston, Mass.) on October 8, 1893. I have no idea when Samuel FERRIS died. Louisa LORIUS had at least the following children (and step-children): Elizabeth OTTO (b. 5/1860), Conrod OTTO (b. 6/1862), William Eugene OTTO (b. 10/15/1864), Ann Berkler (b. 1863), Eva Berkler (b. 1865), Nicholas BERKLER (b. 9/1866), William BERKLER (b. 7/15/1870), Mary Lottie BERKLER (b. 2/23/1872), Emma BERKLER (b. 8/1/1874), Frank (Franz) BERKLER (b. 9/21/1876), Daisy (Desse) BERKLER (b. 12/23/1880), Lena (Lehna) BERKLER (b. 3/20/1883), Henry (Heinrich) BERKLER (b. 1/10/1887). Would appreciate any leads or information about this family.

    LOWE / REEDY / SHULTS
I am searching for information about the Lowe, Shults, and Reedy families. Goerge Frederick Lowe was born in 1859 in St. Clair or Washington County, IL. His father was George Franklin Lowe. George came to Blue Mound, Macon County, IL sometime around 1887. He married Effie Louella Reedy in 1887. George Frederick Lowe died February 6, 1949. Effie Reedy Lowe died July 12, 1931

Effie's family was from Ross County, OH, but I am not sure if some didn't come west to Illinois. Her father was Amos Reedy and her mother was Rosetta Graham Bookwalter Reedy. Her siblings were Elmer, Mary Alice (Mamie), Thomas, and Susan.

George and Effie's daughter Bessie Erma Lowe was born in Blue Mound in 1889. I have a copy of Bessie's high school commencement program from Blue Mound High School in 1907. Their other children were Wayne Reedy Lowe, George Mervil Lowe, and Faithe Rosetta Lowe.

Bessie married Hiram Crosby Shults before 1920, likely in Blue Mound. Hiram was a veterinarian, and came to Blue Mound from Kansas City where he had been to college. He was originally from Montgomery County, New York. He served in World War I. He was mayor of Blue Mound a few times, and also was he "State Veterinarian" for a while. Their children are George Albert Shults and Erma Christine Shults.

I would imagine that there are quite a few articles about Hiram since he held public offices. Hiram died in the early 1960s.

If anyone knows anything about Lowes, Reedy's, or Shults's in the Macon County area, I would love to hear from you. I will certainly share what I have. Thanks!

    THOMAS
THOMAS/COON/COLLINS/McCAIN
Rutha Ann COLLINS was born in Illinois 11 Jan 1862 to John S. and Mary Jane (McCAIN) COLLINS. After her father's death in 1864, her mother re-married in 1869. Rutha Ann was sent to live elsewhere. In 1870, Rutha Ann COLLINS, age 8 years, was enumerated with Jerremia (sp?) and Sophronia THOMAS and their family in Macon Co., IL, in Friends Creek Twp. On the 1880 Macon Co., IL census, Friends Creek Twp., Rutha Ann, age 18, was living with Sophronia THOMAS, a widow. Also living in Sophronia's household was Rutha Ann's brother, Joseph COLLINS, age 21. In Jeremiah THOMAS'S probate file of Jun 1877, he left a one year old horse and one side saddle and bridle to Rutha Ann COLLINS. The will does not identify the relationship between Rutha Ann and the THOMAS'S. When Rutha Ann was married to James E. VULGAMOTT in Macon Co., IL in December of 1882, one of the witnesses was Esther A. (THOMAS) COON. Esther was a daughter of Jeremiah and Sophronia THOMAS. I'm trying to establish a relationship of these COLLINS' children to the THOMAS'S. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    ULLRICH, WATERS, GUENTHER
