Lost Macon County
Decatur has grown from a tiny village of a few log houses and businesses to a large and vital city.
Along the way, buildings have been razed to provide much needed space for both public and private sectors.
Today, historical districts are set aside to protect what remains of our architectual treasures. With
gratitude to those who have gone before, much has been preserved...but, much has also been lost. When
those historic jewels are gone, they're gone forever.
Here, on these pages, we can remember some of Macon County's finest buildings that are no more. If
you know of, or live near, an historic home or business lost to progress, you may submit a story with
the address and history, if you know it. Photos are also very welcome. Contact me
here to make a submission, or if
you have any comments, questions or suggestions. |
